PCD Tipped Turning Inserts

National Diamond Tool & Coating manufactures standard and custom Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) tipped turning inserts for machining non-ferrous metals, composites, and abrasive materials.Available in a variety of insert geometries, PCD grades, and cutting-edge configurations to meet specific machining requirements.

Standard & Custom PCD Inserts

PCD tipped turning inserts are manufactured using a synthetic diamond cutting material bonded to a carbide substrate. The PCD cutting edge provides excellent abrasion resistance and extended tool life when machining suitable materials. Standard ISO insert styles are available, along with custom configurations manufactured to customer drawings and specifications. Custom options include cutting-edge geometries, corner radii, PCD grades, and single-tip, multi-tip, or full-edge configurations.

Advantages of PCD Tipped Inserts

Advantages of PCD Tipped Inserts

PCD tipped inserts offer several advantages over conventional carbide tooling when machining non-ferrous and abrasive materials.

  • Extended Tool Life: High abrasion resistance reduces cutting-edge wear.

  • Reduced Downtime: Longer tool life can reduce the frequency of tool changes.

  • Consistent Surface Finish: PCD cutting edges can maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish over extended production runs.

  • Lower Tooling Costs: Although PCD inserts have a higher initial cost than carbide, longer tool life can reduce overall tooling costs in suitable applications.

Common Materials Machined

PCD tipped turning inserts are commonly used for machining:

  • Aluminum and aluminum alloys

  • Copper

  • Brass and bronze

  • Graphite

  • Plastics

  • Carbon fiber composites

  • Fiberglass

  • Other non-ferrous and abrasive materials

PCD Insert Repair & Retipping

National Diamond Tool & Coating offers repair and retipping services for worn or damaged PCD turning inserts.

Depending on the condition of the carbide body, existing inserts may be retipped with new PCD cutting edges rather than replaced.
